Philip regularly donated money to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital as his youngest grandson Mateo received the most amazing medical treatment there. Mateo was just 2 years old when he was diagnosed with AML leukaemia in September 2019 and spent nearly 7 months in Ward 84 at the Children’s Hospital (now Ward 86).
He had four courses of chemotherapy and dozens of other interventions, operations and treatments including time on the paediatric intensive care unit receiving life-saving treatment. Philip and Susan visited Mateo at the hospital to support their family and cared for Mateo’s siblings whilst there. Philip was so worried about Mateo during this difficult time and ultimately he was so appreciative of the amazing care the hospital staff provided for his grandson. Mateo is now nearly 5 years in remission but Philip has continued donating to the hospital on a regular basis, sending a lovely long letter with each cheque to the staff on the Children’s Cancer Ward detailing his appreciation and gratitude for all the wonderful care his grandson received.
Philip would love to know that any donations at his funeral would continue to support this charity so close to his heart.

In loving memory of my friend Sarah's dear Dad. I'm very pleased to contribute to this charity. May it can bring help and hope to those battling through what Philip's family went through. Phil was a kind, loving, funny and larger than life person. Phil, you will clearly be remembered in the hearts of many many people. Rest in peace.

Manchester Children’s Hospital did a great job in looking after Mateo (and my sister and family) over the course of several months in 2019/20. Dad would have been proud to know that this fund has been set up to enable them to carry on with their work.
Mr David Alcock
Dear Dad/Grandad, We love you so much. You were the kindest and most loving man in the world who adored us all as his family. You were always the absolute best dad to me and a really supportive father in law, and the most wonderful Grandad the children could have. We miss you terribly but will think of you everyday and we’ll always endeavour to be as kind and loving as you always were to everyone you met. All our love and hugs, Sarah, Marcus, Harriet, Seve, Mateo & Lenny!!!! Xxxx
